Hearing Aid Evaluation/Prescription/Fitting
Patients are evaluated for hearing aid amplification based upon audiologic findings. Recommendations are given for the most appropriate model and circuitry. Patients are presented with choices and options depending upon their individual needs. Hearing aid check-ups are routine for adults. For our pediatric populations, ongoing evaluations are performed to obtain additional information for adjustments and transitions from one academic or physical setting to another. Hearing aids are functionally evaluated (tested in the sound booth) to determine benefits. On older children and adults, a real ear electroacoustic analysis is also performed.
Assistive Listening Technology
This area includes devices which make everyday functioning easier and more accessible to the hearing impaired individual. Devices are available to assist in listening to television, telephone, stereo systems, alarm clocks, etc. Other personal listening devices are available as supplements to an individual’s hearing aid. These include a variety of FM amplification devices. Units are provided for personal, professional, and educational use.
Signal Alerting Devices
These also fall within the category of Assistive technology. Signal alerting devices are provided for patients who may need additionaI visual or tactile systems for altering or warning them. A variety of devices are available to include: alarm clocks which vibrate or flash, flashing lights signaled by voice or sounds (ie: an alarm set up for a parent to be alerted to an infant’s cry); and other flashing light systems for doorbells, telephones, alarm systems, etc.
